Welcome to USATF-Long Island Youth Athletics. Here you can learn most of what you need to know in order to participate in Youth Track & Field on Long Island. Today's youth athletes are tomorrow's champions! As the #1 high school and junior high school participatory sport, track & field, long distance running, and race walking offer a variety of competitive and fitness opportunities. Track & Field is truly a “sport for life”, and the future of our sport is in our youth.

2015 Youth Age Groups
Divisions are based on year of birth not age of child!
7/8 yrs 2007 + *
9/10 yrs 2005-2006
11/12 yrs 2003-2004
13/14 yrs 2001-2002
15/16 yrs 1999-2000
17/18 yrs 1997-1998 **

* Per USATF Rule 300.1 (c) "Athletes must be at least seven (7) years of age on December 31 of the current year to compete at the Youth Athletics or Junior Olympic National Championships."

** Athletes who are still 18 through the final day of the USATF National Junior Olympic Track & Field Championships are eligible to compete in the 17-18 age division through that meet. This extended eligibility does not apply to cross country events.

Date of Birth must be verified to compete in Junior Olympics and other National Championships.
To verify the Date of Birth please 
upload a copy of the Birth Certificate or Passport.

Youth Events & Specifications

Join USATF Long Island to become a part our wonderful programs. Find a club that either specializes in youth or at least welcomes them. The club section has contact information and links. We will also keep you informed of National Youth Programs.

If you are interested in starting your own youth club on Long Island please register with USATF Long Island. If you are having trouble registering your club or getting on the club management page, please check out these tutorials.

IMPORTANT: All Youth Club coaches and volunteers will need to submit to a Background Check each year, and be approved prior to the acceptance of the club’s application. Please allow a minimum of 2 weeks for Background Checks to be completed. We urge you to work well in advance of any Meet Registration Deadlines in order for this process to complete.
