SUFFOLK COUNTY EXECUTIVE STEVE BELLONE EXPECTED TO RUN IN 25K

The Greater Long Island Running Club has announced that the 13th annual Caumsett State Park 25 Kilometer and 50 Kilometer Runs will be held on Sunday, March 6, 2016. The 50K Run has been selected by the Mountain, Ultra & Trail Council of USA Track & Field to once again serve as the USATF National 50 Kilometer Road Race Championship for 2016, and virtually every top United States endurance runner is expected to be competing in this year’s Run.

“We are thrilled to have Caumsett State Park chosen once again to host this National Championship event, which will also serve as the United States qualifier for the World 50K Championship,” observed Carl Grossbard who will be directing the Run for the race manager Greater Long Island Running Club. “Long Island has become a major player on the United States ultramarathon circuit, and we are excited about the prospect of every top American Marathoner coming here on March 1st.”

Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone is one of the dedicated endurance runners who is expected to be competing in the Run. Suffolk County Legislator Dr. William “Doc” Spencer will be on hand to sound the starting horn that will send the runners on their way.

The  2015 edition of the Caumsett 50K Run was won by Zachary Ornelas of Ann Arbor, Michigan, who set a race record of 2 hours, 52 minutes, 16 seconds, the fastest 50 Kilometer Run recorded in any 50K race in the country in all of 2015. Tyler Anderson of Arlington, Virginia was second and Kory Cool of Manhattan, Kansas was third. The first Long island finisher was Jerry Pannullo of East Islip in 11th place overall.
