Kathy Martin named 2017 World Masters Athletics Female Masters Athlete of the Year

On March 5, Kathy Martin was named 2017 Female Masters Athlete of the Year by the World Masters Athletics organization.

At last month's USATF Long Island Awards Brunch Kathy Martin was honored as our 2017 Association Athlete of the Year. This was in recognition of the 3 gold medals she won at the 2017 Masters Indoor Track & Field World Championships and the 6 age-group (W65) World records she set during 2017.

Below is a summary of her accomplishments during 2017:

  • Set American age-group road race records (W65) for 10k, 15k, 20k, 25k, 10 miles and Half-Marathon.
  • 3 gold medals at the USATF Masters Indoor T&F Championships; 800m (World Record 2:44.35), 1500m and 3000m.
  • 3 gold medals at the Masters Indoor Track & Field World Championships; 1500m (WR 5:25.29), 3000m (WR 11:35.98) and 8k Cross Country race.
  • 3 gold medals at the North & Central America & Caribbean Region of World Masters Outdoor T&F Championships; 1500m (WR 5:25.65), 2000m Steeplechase (WR 8:52.49) and 5000m.
  • Kathy also set a World record of 5:51.74 for the indoor mile.
