USATF Masters National Indoor Championships

Winston Salem, NC - After 3 days of competition, several of our USATF Long island masters athletes came home with lots of hardware and a few records.

3/20, Day 1: Vicki Fox was the W55 National Champion in the Pentathlon (3,096 points, a USATF-LI record) and placed 5th in W55 400m (1:12.73, another USATF-LI record). Kathy Martin, was the W60 National Champion in the 3000m (11:44.27). Joe Cordero placed 5th in M75 3000m (15:58.46).

3/21, Day 2: Saturday say some great competition for our athletes, who were very busy (and successful) competing in multiple events. On the women's side Vicki Fox, W55, continued her medaling streak by placing 2nd in the 60m Dash (9.73) and 60m HH (12.71), 2nd in the Long Jump (3.67m) and 7th in the Shot Put (7.63m). Vicki was also a member of the National Champion W50 4x200 (2:07.76). Not to be outdone Mary Trotto, W65, also competed in 4 events; placing 3rd in the Pole Vault (1.22m), 4th in the Long Jump (1.90m), 5th in the Shot Put (6.22m) and 7th in the 60m Dash (12.83). Sue Nesbihal, W65, placed 5th in the Long Jump (1.84m). Kim Touya, W35, earned a couple of medals placing 2nd in the Long Jump (4.42m) and 3rd in the 60m (8.52). Kathy Martin ,W60, added another gold medal to her collection crossing the line first in the W60 Mile in 6:05.96. Kathy later teamed up with 3 other W60-64 women and broke the World Record for the 4x800m Relay with a time of 12:12.46.
 
Representing the men, Joe Cordero placed 5th in the M75 Mile (7:47.09). Karl Buckle finished 4th in the M50 60m (7.68). And Stephen Gould, M55, placed 5th in the 60m (8.19) and 7th in the Long Jump (3.08m). 
3/22, Day3: First off, your National Champions; Kathy Martin cruised in the W60 800m (2:45.32), Kim Touya out-leaped all the 35-39 women in the Triple Jump (9.65m) and Carolyn Kealty, W50, won the 3,000m Race Walk (16:11.72). Speaking of the W50 3,000m Race Walk, Rebecca Garson and Lou Kaelin placed 2nd (18:19.39) and 3rd (23:25.99) respectively; while Jeanette Priest, W65, was 4th in her age group (21:22.19). Vicki Fox, W55, placed 2nd in the 200m (31.55) and 5th in the 800m (2:48.77) and 2nd in the High Jump (1.15m). Sue Nesbihal was 5th in the W65 Triple Jump (4.13m). Mary Trotto, W65, had her usual busy day placing 2nd in the High Jump (.90m), 4th in the Triple Jump (4.50m), 5th in the Shot Put (6.22m) and 6th in the Weight Throw (5.59m).

On the men's side; Karl Buckle was runner-up in the M50 200m (24.69), Stephen Gould was 9th in the M55 200m (27.53) and Joe Cordero was 4th in the M75 800m (3:40.99).
